Mission of the Irish Perinatal Society

  • To foster interest in the fetus and newborn and to encourage research in perinatal medicine
  • To promote a closer association between obstetrics and neonatal paediatrics and to encourage exchange of ideas and social contacts between all those with a special interest in the development of the fetus and young infant
  • To promote undergraduate and postgraduate training in early development
  • To enhance understanding of perinatal disorders and a more efficient management of these problems as they arise prenatally and/or during the intrapartum or postnatal periods
  • To increase the availability of up to date information for those working in the field of perinatal medicine

Learn about recent advances in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Perinatal Medicine

The fourth Irish Congress of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Perinatal Medicine will take place on Thursday 30 November and Friday 1 December 2017. This national conference is a unique opportunity to hear from experts representing a wide range of organisations involved in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Perinatal Medicine, including The Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists at RCPI The Irish Perinatal Society Continence Foundation Ireland Irish Gynaecological Endoscopy Society Irish Fertility Society Irish Society of Gynaecological Oncology Junior Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society (JOGS) The theme of this year's Congress is Perinatal and pregnancy outcomes and their relevance for the various subspecialties. All healthcare professionals with an interest in Obstetrics, Gynaecology or Perinatal Medicine are welcome to attend.

This meeting is aimed at consultants and non consultant hospital doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics, nurses, midwives, medical students and allied health professionals.

 

Meet our international speakers

Professor Lesley Regan
Professor Lesley Regan is President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, and Deputy Head of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London.

Professor Regan's main clinical and research interests are in recurrent miscarriage and the development of non-invasive fertility sparing therapies for uterine fibroids. She is co-director of the UK's Baby Bio Bank (BBB); a pregnancy tissue archive which will underpin future translational research into the major complications of pregnancy.

In 2005, she received a Woman of Achievement Award in recognition of her services to Reproductive Medicine. She has published two successful books on miscarriage and pregnancy for the lay public and presented a series of 6 BBC Horizon documentaries.

 

Professor Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran
Prof Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran is an internationally renowned Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St George's, University of London.

His research and clinical interests are in understanding and improving the quality of life for women and newborn babies. He has been in clinical practice for 37 years and in research and teaching for 25 years.

He is active with a number of professional organisations and was president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists from 2009 - 2010. He was President of the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FIGO) from 2012 - 2015. He was appointed Knight Bachelor in June 2009 for his services to medicine.

 

Mr Dudley Robinson
Mr Dudley Robinson is a Consultant Surgeon in Urogynaecology and Gynaecology at King's College Hospital, London.

He has published widely in the field of urogynaecology and research interests include the effect of hormones and drugs on the lower urinary tract.

He regularly gives invited lectures both nationally and internationally and is on the editorial board on the International Urogynaecology Journal. He has published over 40 peer review papers, 70 published abstracts, 55 review articles and 37 book chapters. In addition he has co-authored two books on urinary incontinence.

 

Professor Richard Anderson Professor
Richard Anderson is Elsie Inglis Professor of Clinical Reproductive Science, University of Edinburgh, Consultant in Reproductive Medicine, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Head of Section, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Edinburgh.

His research interests include human ovarian development, ovarian cryopreservation for fertility preservation, and effects of chemotherapy on oocyte and follicle development.

He is active with a number of professional organisations including the RCOG Scientific Advisory Committee; Scientific Advisory Committee, Contraception and Reproductive Health Branch, National Institutes for Health, USA; WHO Research Group in Methods for the Regulation of Male Fertility; HFEA Multiple Births group; and ESHRE Task Force on Fertility Preservation.

 

Mr James Daniel English
Mr. James English is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals. He is also a visiting surgeon at the Bronovo Hospital in The Hague where he performs complex pelvic surgery and is on the regular teaching faculty at the European Surgical Institute in Hamburg. He is a Board Member and Faculty Member on the national MSc course in Advanced Gynaecological Laparoscopy at the University of Surrey.

His main area of research is in severe endometriosis and its management and he has lectured and published widely in this area.

 

Dr Namasivayam Ambalavanan
Dr. Namasivayam Ambalavanan is a neonatologist in Birmingham, Alabama and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Children's Hospital of Alabama at UAB and University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital.

His research interests include Neonatal nutrition (specifically vitamin A), feeding practices, and probiotics Basic research: Neonatal lung development, and mechanisms underlying neonatal pulmonary vascular remodeling and neonatal pulmonary hypertension.
